Encounters 2004 South African International Documentary Film Festival set to expose vexing issues of our times
Proudly re-asserting their presence as a documentary filmmakers' Nirvana, Cape Town and Johannesburg will shortly play host to the country's premiére documentary film festival - the Encounters 2004 South African International Documentary Film Festival. This year's bumper line-up comprises some 61 documentaries sourced from over 35 countries, including a component that pays tribute to a Decade of Democracy. Vexing issues of our times will also be addressed through topics as diverse as Iraqi battlezones to Haiti's popular uprising; cultural insights to biographies; extreme sports from waves to mountains; corruption and crimes against humanity, right through to a behind-the-scenes study of rock band Metallica's darkest hour during drug addiction therapy.
